What is GoHighLevel?

GoHighLevel, now branded HighLevel, is an all-in-one marketing and CRM platform that agencies use to run their clients’ lead capture, follow-up and booking from one login. This guide explains how it is built, what it costs and when it fits, using HighLevel’s own pages as the source.

GoHighLevel in one paragraph

HighLevel describes itself as “the AI-powered business operating system” and says it is built for agencies, consultants, freelancers and service providers. The company is based in Dallas, Texas. The product bundles tools that agencies used to buy separately (a CRM, a funnel and website builder, email and SMS, calendars, reviews, payments) into one platform with one bill.

The structure is what makes it an agency tool. You get an agency account, and inside it one sub-account per client. Each sub-account has its own contacts, pipelines, calendars, phone numbers and automations, and you can give the client a login to their own sub-account. The plan you pay for decides how many sub-accounts you can create.

What is inside

HighLevel’s pricing page lists the same core tools on every plan. The differences between plans are mostly about how many clients you can run, how usage is billed and whether you can resell the software itself.

  • CRM with contacts, pipelines and custom dashboards
  • Website, funnel and form builder, plus surveys and quizzes
  • Email and SMS marketing, inbound and outbound calling, one inbox for all conversations
  • Booking calendars, payments and invoicing
  • Workflow automation
  • Reputation management and social media planning
  • Courses, communities and a mobile app
  • AI features such as Conversation AI, Voice AI, Content AI and AI review replies (usage-based)

Is GoHighLevel a CRM?

Yes, but a CRM is only one part of it. Contacts, pipelines and opportunities sit at the center, and almost every other tool writes into them: a form fill creates a contact, a booked call moves a deal, a text reply lands in the same record.

What sets it apart from sales CRMs like HubSpot or Pipedrive is the automation layer around the CRM (see our GoHighLevel vs HubSpot comparison). Workflows can send texts, start call sequences or ask for a review based on what happens in the pipeline. That is powerful for lead follow-up, and it also means someone has to build and maintain those workflows for every client.

Agencies typically use it twice: once for their own sales pipeline, and once per client inside each sub-account to handle that client’s leads.

What it costs

Three public plans: Starter at $97 a month with 3 sub-accounts, Unlimited at $297 with unlimited sub-accounts, and Agency Pro (also called Founder) at $497, which adds SaaS mode. Paying yearly saves two months. Enterprise has no public price. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial.

The plan is the fixed part. On top come usage fees for SMS, email, calls and AI, and 7 add-ons that are billed per sub-account, which means per client. For a local SEO agency the two that matter most are the SEO add-on at $79 and listings management at $30 per client a month. The full breakdown, with a calculator, is on our GoHighLevel pricing page.

Where it is strong

HighLevel makes the most sense when your clients need fast lead follow-up: forms and ads that feed a pipeline, text and email sequences, booking and reminders. Unlimited users and contacts on every plan, and unlimited sub-accounts from the second plan, keep the fixed cost flat while you add clients.

Agency Pro adds SaaS mode, which lets you package the platform into your own plans and bill clients for the software directly. For agencies that want to sell software rather than services, that is the main reason to choose it.

What to plan for

None of these are reasons to avoid HighLevel. They are the costs and the work that usually decide whether it pays off for a given agency.

  • Setup time: the platform gives you the building blocks, and your team builds the funnels, workflows and templates for each client.
  • Per-client add-ons: SEO, listings, the client portal app and AI employees are billed per sub-account and grow with every client.
  • Usage fees: texts, emails, calls and AI are paid from a wallet. Rebilling to clients is unlocked from Unlimited; on Starter the agency pays usage itself.
  • Local SEO is an add-on, not the core: Google Business Profile work, rank tracking and listings come from add-ons and integrations.
  • Support load: when clients log into your branded account, their questions come to you first.

Who it fits, and who should look further

A good fit: agencies that sell lead generation, funnels and follow-up, have someone who enjoys building automations, and want one platform for many different client types.

Worth comparing first: agencies whose main product is local SEO (Google profile, reviews, map rankings, listings), because that work is spread across add-ons and integrations on HighLevel. Questions

What is GoHighLevel used for?
